Located in Dunedin, New Zealand, Animation Research Limited is one of Australasia’s leading computer graphics production facilities turning digital data into pictures. ARL was founded in 1989 and since then the company has won numerous national and international awards for its work in computer generated television commercials and has also developed award winning applications used for education and entertainment.

ARL's sporting division Virtual Eye is a leader in real time sports graphics for television and big screen broadcast. In 1991 ARL developed the first ever real time yachting graphics package for the Americas Cup in 2006 they did the same for gliding at the New Zealand Gliding Grand Prix. Over the years ARL has delivered 3D animation graphics for the world wide coverage of the Whitbread Around the World Yacht Race and has developed a revolutionary 3D computer graphics package in live to air golf coverage. In 2006 alone Virtual Eye graphics will be part of the coverage for more than 30 golf tournaments including the US Open, the British Open and the Ryder Cup.

In 1999 ARL was awarded the TUANZ I.C.T. Product of the Decade Award for its ground breaking work on live 3D Graphics for the Americas Cup. ARL's involvement with the America's Cup event continues to this day. More recently ARL has been involved in the development of educational software products including the development of 'Total Control' an air traffic control simulator. This product has already received numerous awards and will be marketed internationally.
