Whale Watch Kaikoura
How do you take one of New Zealand’s leading tourist attractions and move it to even greater heights. Answer…you move it to greater depths. In 2003 ARL took on the daunting challenge of creating the virtual “World of the Whales”...a unique underwater habitat in a canyon the size of the Grand Canyon.
“World of the Whales” is an on-board virtual tour that takes visitors to the depths of the Kaikoura Canyon off the coast of New Zealand and puts them ‘virtually’ face to face with the marine creatures that live in this 2.5 km deep chasm below the surface of the Pacific Ocean.
In conjunction with this we implemented the Whale Watch Management and Reservation System, which was designed to streamline the everyday operations of this fast growing company.
From point of sale payment, trip scheduling and accounting, the system does it all. This custom built solution is user friendly and robust. Built in conjunction with the real-time 3D technology developed by Animation Research Limited used on-board the boats to demonstrate the amazing underwater world of the whales.
