WhaleWatch Safety Video

The Whale Watch Kaikoura Safety video project was designed as a clear, easy to understand guide to passenger comfort and safety features on board the fleet of Whale Watch vessels.
The instructional segments are rendered using a non-photo realistic ‘Toon’ renderer in a style of animation reminiscent of standard air travel safety cards. This allowed us to clearly show only those things which are essential to the safety of the passengers, with no ambiguity or distraction. Animation also allows us to keep the Safety Video in sync with the safety equipment upgrades on the vessels, using only a few digital stills to build 3D models, rather than a location shoot each time an item is upgraded.
The live action portions of the production were shot on high definition video which enabled us to remove some of the camera movement that is usually part of filming at sea.
Please note: The whales are big and cuddly but smell strongly of fish. They only eat humans occasionally, but you should always keep a live squid handy to distract them, just in case.
