ARL creates a wide range of VR and 360° Immersive applications for various tourism, education and industry training projects. ARL can bundle-in 3D Immersive experiences as part of a larger package. When asked by Great Southern Television to produce animations recreating Ruapekapeka Pa for an historical documentary, we also created a 360° experience for the Radio New Zealand Website, where the public can explore the Pa and watch videos from 'NZ Wars: The Stories of Ruapekapeka'.
Tales from the mythologies of Creation, Māui and Aoraki' is an ARL visualisation (originally in stereoscopic 3D) of four Māori mythologies (Creation, Land and Sky, the North Island and the South Island) which screened daily in the 'Waka Māori' pavilion in Auckland during the 2011 Rugby World Cup. With our battle-hardened 360° kits, we are able to assist New Zealand's adventure tourism operators in advertising their respective experiences with minimal setup and quick turnaround. Shotover Jet takes people on a wild ride through the Shotover River canyons, and now use 360° videos as a 'taste of the Shotover Jet thrill'.
In 2018 we developed a Virtual Reality pilot project to assist Tāwhaki Tatai Reo and Methodist Mission Southern in delivering numeracy and literacy training at the Otago Corrections Facility. The virtual environment was a mechanic's workshop with detailed cars, where participants could, for example, explore an engine block or assemble brake calipers while receiving a mini-lesson and learning associated vocabulary. Progress was mapped using the Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool (LNAAT), measured in steps 1 to 6 - results indicated that all tested learners gained at least two steps in the LNAAT for numeracy and literacy.
ARL built the TotalControl Air Traffic Control Simulator for Airways International. Designed from the ground up by our software developers and engineers, Total Control comes complete with multiple towers, aircraft, cloud types, weather, and 'full world' airspace allowing simultaneous use across multiple suites. Originally installed at the Airways training facility in Christchurch in 2006, there are now 70+ TotalControl simulators installed at training facilities around the world.
