Tata Sky DTH Cricket

23 Aug 2006

Tata Sky, an 80:20 DTH (Direct-To-Home) joint venture between the Tata Group and Hong Kong-based Star Group, has launched India’s second DTH platform. As cricket is India’s most popular sport it is only logical that cricket coverage be included in the offering. Furthermore, Tata Sky engaged ARL to develop it’s Virtual Eye software to enable interactive services for the devoted cricket fan. The 'Active Sport' service allows viewers to watch the game live, watch custom replay packages, access real time Player and team stats, as well as Virtual Eye animations, with commentary at the end of each over.

In excess of 100 days of cricket will be covered by the service in the ensuing 12 months. Using video footage as reference 2 operators of the Virtual Eye system from Indian company Indigo Solutions will capture the data and develop analysis which is available to subscribers on either a separate channel or as picture in picture. The scoring and player statistics data generated by the Virtual Eye software are provided in real time to the Tata Sky set top boxes, allowing fans to access their own cricket almanac on screen in real time.
